"I have a normal size" Amy doesn't watch her weight
That Amy Lee from Evanescence doesn't let herself get fooled. While other stars starve themselves to look at their best, she finds it more important to set a good example.
Fans see you as a rolemodel. Do you also feel that way? The hardest part is: how should you feel? That I'm not so sure of, but I am aware that fans see me like that. I actually don't know any better, because at home I also was the oldest. I have 2 younger sisters and 1 younger brother, and they are all also a lot younger. My oldest (little) sister is 17.
That's about 8 years difference. Yes, precisely. My whole life I've been the oldest and I often get the feeling that our fans are also my little sisters. But of course we also have older fans, and not only females. But in the crowd I see a lot of young girls that look like me, rocking hard and supporting us wherever they can. And then I love them back as an older sister. Besides I can recognize them a kilometre away: hey there goes an Evanescence-fan. I love them, my own small army.
Sounds like you are a rolemodel! I do sometimes feel like a rolemodel. An example of someone who is independent and can think for herself. I don't want to preach, but I think we could use more women like that. Famous women who are sure of themselves and can stand up for themself. Who don't do things, because men want them to do so. If you work hard and put your talent to good use, you can have more success.
You seem to be doing things differently then other female stars. The person who can loose most weight for example. Nothing for you? Oh no, I completely don't feel for that. I actually put off to that. I stand behind my own choices and choose things in live that make me happy. Of course every girl has her own insecurity, i don't know one girl who thinks she's perfect. I also have that insecurity. But I'm not a slave to it; I don't let me feelings turn me into something I don't want to be.
What are you insecure about? Well simply about my body. But i think that is part of being a girl. And the older I get, the less I like it. But I'm absolutely not insecure about my personality or my talent. I know I'm good at what I do. I'm funny and foolish and stupid; I just don't take myself seriously.
Qua looks you also don't have much to complain. eh yes, that's also so. Well I'm not 200 pounds. Maybe I'm not what certain people wouuld call pretty, but qua size I'm normal. That's a good thing, because I love fashion and shopping.
Where do you do that? I live in New York and now that I have more money, I like to go hunting for unusual design-things. It's funny how the reacties on my person differ per shop. In some shops I'm completally being ignored because I don't have a design size. I'm 4 sizes bigger then those catwalk-models. And a bit shorter que height. So often those arrogant sales people don't want me.
But you also get other reactions? Oh yes, sometimes it's very fun and positive. They are relieved that a normal person with normal properties is in their shop. So I won't go break my head over my weight. I do what makes me happy and healthy. And besides, to stop eating is nothing for me: I love it too much.
But do you do something to stay in shape? On tour I don't have that much time, but at home I went to the gym not long ago. But only 2 times per week. Just enough to feel good, but not to loose weight. When we're on tour I automatically get my muscles back, especially in my stomach. belting out those notes is a whole work-out. If we haven't performed in a while I always get aching muscles after the first performance.
